Dominican Sisters of Sparkill
We are a congregation of women religious founded in New York City in 1876. We came to Rockland County in 1884 and founded St. Agnes Home and School for Children. Our legal title is: Dominican Convent of Our Lady of the Rosary. Sisters are involved in a myriad of ministries that include: teaching, nursing, social work, parish and pastoral work, administering housing projects for senior persons and programs for people suffering from various addictions. Our sisters are located in New York, Missouri, Montana, and in other states in our country and in Pakistan. Our mission focuses on ‘the poor, the powerless, the oppressed, and the spiritually deprived people of our times’.
In Rockland country, Dominican Sisters own and administer Albertus Magnus High School, Bardonia and are also on staff at the elementary schools: St. Anthony, Nanuet, St. Gregory Barbarigo, Garnerville, and St. Paul, Valley Cottage. Sisters are part of the teaching and administering of St. Thomas Aquinas College, Sparkill. We corporately sponsor Thorpe Village and Dowling Gardens, Inc., residence for senior persons, both located in Sparkill. Thorpe Senior Center is located at our Motherhouse, Dominican Convent, on Route 340, Sparkill. This is also home to over 120 of our sisters and the location of Siena Hall Infirmary and St. Agnes residence. For over 135 years, the Dominican Sisters of Sparkill have been Women Making a Difference in the lives of people throughout our world and are proud to call Rockland County home.
